Away-giving and Mission of the Month 2011
Following the Biblical principle of tithing, 10% of all income received by St Paul's Church for general purposes is given to missionary or charitable causes. This includes giving by church members, whether by Standing Order through a Bank, by cheque or by cash in the offertory plate. 8% of each month's total general income, including Gift Aid donations and the tax recovered, is sent to the Mission of the Month. The remaining 2% is used to meet contingencies - emergency missionary situations or unforeseen needs at home or overseas.
Each Mission of the Month is illustrated by a display and some are also represented by a speaker at one of the Sunday services. A basic principle is that any cause chosen as Mission of the Month or supported by contingency giving should be either missionary or church-based. During 2010, approximately £10,500 was given away to missionary and charitable causes under this scheme.
The Mission of the Month causes for 2011 are as follows:-
