Dear Friends,
Take Time to Remember
I was about to compose a message when I became distracted by other work. Afterwards, I could remember the intended recipient of my message but I could not remember the subject matter of the message itself. If only I had written it down! This frustrating and slightly amusing experience points to the value of having ways of remembering things that are important.
Not so long ago there was a significant example of taking time to remember something important in appropriate ways, with the marking of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. The Telegraph spoke of “events taking place across the globe to remember the worst attack on US soil in history” and of “remembrances for the 2,977 people who died”.
Some of our forthcoming services at St Paul’s Church also involve Remembrance. On 30th October at 6.30p.m. (All Saints’ Sunday) we are holding our Annual Thanksgiving and Memorial Service to remember our departed loved ones. On Sunday 13th November at 10.30a.m., our Remembrance Day service will take place to remember those who gave their lives in two World Wars and subsequent conflicts.
Every Sunday presents an opportunity to remind ourselves of God’s love for all people and His desire to be involved in our lives as we gather in His name at Church. We need this reminding and encouraging afresh, if we are to remember that God is with us through all the ups and downs of the week ahead. The burning coal has been used as an illustration of this. A Christian who does not meet with other Christians is like a coal taken out of the fire. Quickly the glow fades. But when we return to regular fellowship, we are like a coal back in the fire, which soon lights up again.
I warmly invite you to join us for forthcoming services and events.
