In April 2010, a Prayer Labyrinth was set up at St Paul’s Church Beckenham, during Holy Week and Easter.
Prayer labyrinths have been used for centuries for prayer and spiritual growth. An Easter prayer labyrinth takes us on a journey designed to help us think about Christ's suffering as he journeyed towards the cross, and to reflect on the events of Easter. It helps us think and pray about our own lives too and about people who are suffering in the world today.
For our Easter prayer labyrinth, the church was laid out with a pathway which led to a number of prayer "stations", which were designed to help visitors to pray, think and meet God. Visitors could spend as long or as little time as they wished - there were no "marks out of ten" for spirituality!
For those who missed it, or would like to take the journey again, there is an online version. You can just watch the slides and listen to the accompanying music, or for a richer experience you may want to have a few simple items beside you:
- some bread
- a nail
- a small cross
- some incense or spices
Before you begin you may also want to take a little time to read the short account of Jesus’ journey to the cross and resurrection in Mark 15 and 16.
Click here to start. The music is not available online yet.
